Privacy
Short version: we collect very little, and we never sell any of it.
What we collect
We only keep what you give us through a form, and only to do what that form is for:
- Newsletter: your email address.
- Getting listed or claiming a listing: your name, email and any phone or message you add, so we can verify you and follow up.
- Owner accounts: your email address (your sign-in) and your password, which is stored scrambled (hashed) so no one — including us — can read it.
- Events, corrections, sponsorships and the contact form: the name and email you give us, so we can reply or set things up.
Our web server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, pages visited) for security and troubleshooting, as virtually every website does. We do not run advertising trackers.
Business information we publish
Listings show business details — name, address, phone, business email, website, hours and a short description — that come from the business itself or from its own website and other public sources. If you run a listed business and want details changed, claim your listing free and edit it; if you'd rather not be listed at all, contact us and we'll remove it.
Website analytics
To understand how people find and use the directory, we keep privacy-first, cookieless analytics: aggregate daily counts of listing views, the general source of a visit (for example a search engine, a social network, or another website), the broad region a visit comes from (province or country level), the type of device used (such as mobile or desktop), and the words people type into the directory search. This information is stored only as combined totals — we set no cookies for it, and we do not store your IP address or browsing history for analytics. To avoid counting the same visit twice, we use a one-way code that changes every day and can't be traced back to you. Because of this, we don’t show a cookie banner.
Payments
Listing upgrades, category exclusivity and sponsorships are processed by PayPal through Design Menu, VanIsleNet's parent company. Your payment details go directly to PayPal — we never see or store card numbers or banking information. PayPal's own privacy policy governs that data.
Email we send
We don't sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone. We email you only about things you've asked for or that concern your own listing: the newsletter if you subscribe, replies to your messages and submissions, sign-in and account emails, and a monthly performance report for claimed listings, which owners can turn off. When we add a business to the directory, we may send it a one-time note at its published business email to let it know. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe, and unsubscribing works immediately.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your subscription, account, listing or submission is active, and for as long afterwards as we reasonably need for records and billing. We delete it sooner on request.
Your choices and who to contact
Mike Perks is responsible for privacy at VanIsleNet. Want to see, correct or delete your information — a newsletter subscription, an account, a claim, an event submission? Contact us and we'll take care of it.
